Today, we’ll delve into the intriguing world of what to do when your progressed sun has changed signs and how it can impact your essential essence, vitality, and how you are meant to shine.

Understanding what it means when Your Progressed Sun has changed signs

Your progressed sun serves as a window into your evolved identity. Essentially, it’s your natal chart adjusted for your current age. While it doesn’t replace your natal sun (nothing ever could!), it does add an extra layer to your sense of identity and core essence that lasts for approximately 30 years. This celestial phenomenon can color your world in unexpected ways.

I first encountered the concept of progressions by learning about the progressed moon but we can also work with our progressed sun, ascendant, mercury, Venus, and Mars.

So, what should you do when your progressed sun changes signs or houses, and how can you work with this energy?

When will your Progressed Sun change signs or houses?

To begin, you need to know where your progressed sun currently resides to anticipate or recognize a sign or house change. Tools like the calculator on Astro-seek.com can provide you with this information. For example, my progressed sun recently shifted into my 5th house after being in the 4th house since 2002 (or 22 years).

So as you can see the progressed sun doesn’t make significant shifts all that often but when it does – it’s pretty momentous.

Being aware of this transition helps us prepare for the changes in our personal energy.

I find it interesting that my progressed sun changed signs within 2 weeks of me taking my daughter to see Taylor Swift in concert at the last minute. This experience was the epitome of the 5th house – Joy, pleasure, bliss, living in the moment, being with one of my children. This experience also made me stop and think about how I want to embrace spontaneity more in my life – to find these moments of pure sober joy – and live life to its fullest. I think this is in large part what this shift is about for me but I think it also relates to my professional life too – where so much of what I am focused on is creative projects – like the relaunch of my Oracle deck at the end of this year and writing my first book.

What happens when it changes signs?

It’s harder to observe the energy shift when your progressed sun changes signs or houses because it doesn’t happen that often! However, if I reflect on when my progressed sun last changed signs it was in 2007 when it moved into Capricorn. This was a little while after my Saturn return and when I had met my now husband and started settling down buying a house and soon after fell pregnant. I certainly felt the shift from freedom-seeking Sagittarius energy into hardworking and serious Capricorn energy.

What can you do when it changes signs?

My Progressed Sun will move from Capricorn into Aquarius in 2037 when I am 57 years old. By this stage both my children will be well and truly through school and if they choose to go to university (college) will likely have finished this too. We will have paid off our mortgage and I feel like it will be a time when I have far fewer responsibilities and have more time to focus on my legacy, perhaps go back to doing some work that I did early in my career in aid & development (very aquarian) or even learn something entirely new!

Understanding that our progressed sun is in signs and houses for a long time – it’s important to understand that we have a soul contract to work with this energy. It’s like our Doctorate is in our natal sun sign but we do an undergraduate degree in each progressed sun sign (we’ll only have 3-4 in a lifetime).

Reflecting on your Progressed Sun’s sign or house change

If your progressed sun has recently changed signs or houses (or will do so soon), consider asking yourself these reflective questions:

  • What unique qualities does this new zodiac sign bring that I don’t have natively in my sun sign?
  • How am I being asked to evolve my identity?
  • How can I “borrow” and integrate positive traits from this sign into my life?
  • In what area of life (the house) is going to need focus over the next 20-30 years.
  • Do I have any natal helpers (planets) in this house?

Other ways to work with your Progressed Sun sign

  • Take time to reflect on your identity as your progressed sun changes signs or houses. Journaling can be especially helpful. Document your feelings, thoughts, and any noticeable shifts in your life.
  • Consider consulting with an experienced astrologer to gain a deeper understanding of the specific qualities and challenges associated with your newly progressed sun sign or house (I cover this in my year ahead reading).
  • As your progressed sun shifts, be open to adjusting your goals, priorities, and sense of identity accordingly. Flexibility and adaptability are key to riding the progressed sun wave.
  • Set Goals: Set clear goals for how you want to work with the energy of your new progressed sun sign or house. What big goals would you like to achieve during this time? Having a purposeful approach can help you make the most of this transformative period.
  • Each zodiac sign carries its own unique qualities and interests. Use this time to explore new hobbies, activities, or areas of personal development that align with the characteristics of your progressed sun sign or house. It can be a great opportunity for self-discovery.
  • Reach out to people who share your new progressed sun sign or house as their natal sun sign or house. They can provide valuable insights and support as you navigate your progressed sun journey.
  • Create a Vision Board: Visualize and manifest your intentions by creating a vision board that represents your goals and desires during this time. It’s a tangible way to focus on your evolution.
  • Celebrate Milestones: As your progressed sun transitions through different signs and houses, celebrate the milestones and accomplishments along the way. Acknowledge your growth and the positive changes you’ve made in your life.
