Pluto has moved back into Aquarius which is astrologically significant as it has been in Capricorn since late 2008.

When Pluto enters a new sign, everything about the way we view our lives and our society as a whole changes in unprecedented ways.

When was Pluto in Aquarius last?

The last time Pluto was in Aquarius was between 1778 to 1798, which coincided with a time when countries all around the world rose up and challenged the ruling authority – there were major and significant political and social revolutions.

And the time before that from 1532 to 1553 was the time of the Protestant Reformation that challenged the Catholic Church’s authority so just a bit of a big deal.

When will Pluto be in Aquarius?

Pluto renters Aquarius on January 21st 2024 and will stay there until 3rd September 2024, however, before retrograding back into Capricorn (for the last time) until November 20th 2024.

What we will see is a glimpse or a preview of the energy that will properly kick off from November 2024 for the next 20 years.

Pluto dipped its toes into Aquarius in 2023, and starts to move further through it in 2024 and this transit is all about self-liberation and the forward progress of more egalitarian and humanitarian ideals.

It asks us, as Mahatma Gandhi said, to be the change we want to see in the world.

It asks us to reflect on and get clearer about our ideals and principles.

And one of the ways we can do this is through the appropriate use of power in groups and communities but it may also bring up our fears around being in community and it may make us want to run and hide and be the lone wolf.

When Pluto the planet of death and destruction, finds itself in Aquarius, the sign of the rebel you can almost always count on challenges to existing authoritarian systems and a collective need to harness community strength.

As evolutionary astrologer Rose Marcus explains, Pluto’s transit through Aquarius marks times of rebellions, revolutions, and significant social progress.

“What may be unthinkable, radical, outlandish, bizarre, or extraordinary today can become the norm of tomorrow’s reality,”

-Rose Marcus

And Pluto in Aquarius marks the era of destroying all the inequity in our systems so they can be rebuilt to better serve the collective.

What can we expect when Pluto is in Aquarius?

Don’t quote me but I think we’ll see:

  • Increase in community-driven power & community-building
  • Dismantling of traditional power structures
  • The potential for a Herd mentality
  • Technology booms including AI, microchips, robotics
  • Rise and fall of technology companies
  • Expansion of new healing technologies and massive developments in traditional medicine
  • Decentralized currencies/cryptocurrencies
  • The continued growth of Astrology businesses but also the decentralization of astrology knowledge – more and better tools to learn and apply astrology yourself
  • Traditional astrology schools will need to rapidly upskill in online teaching technologies to stay relevant.

But wait, Pluto is going back into Capricorn, right?

It sure is, thanks to Pluto’s slow orbit and annual retrograde periods, it’ll dip back into Capricorn from September 3rd to November 20th 2024.

During the retrograde back into Capricorn we’ll see the last fight for traditional ideals versus the more progressive ideals of Aquarius – so expect some large–scale social conflict around this time.

Pluto will then settle back into Aquarius to begin its uninterrupted 20-year journey (until 2043) through the sign of rebellion, innovation, and change.

Pluto in Aquarius: What does this mean for me?

You’ll feel this more innovative and rebellious energy most if you have planets at 0 Aquarius (or Taurus, Leo, or Scorpio).

If you have planets here you’ll likely feel quite rebellious towards structures that seek to control and you might feel ready to make major changes.
