So you already have a thriving business…
Perhaps you’re a coach with a fully-booked out calendar?
Or maybe you’re a graphic designer who has clients for the rest of the year?
Perhaps you’re a healer who has a waiting list of people who want to work with you?
First of all, congratulations! I’m sure you worked really hard to get to this place and your success is so well-deserved!
And second of all, I want to ask you a question: what’s next?
I’m a big believer that e-Courses are a brilliant next step (I wrote more about this here) and today I want to show you how to create an e-Course for your thriving business!
Why should you create an e-Course for your thriving business?
Before we start talking about the ‘how’ of creating an e-Course for your thriving business, I want to talk about why you should do it!
There are so many reasons why creating an e-Course is a good idea!
- Brings in a new, leveraged income stream
- Allows you to reach more people
- Can be a more affordable way of working with you
- Allows you to share your knowledge and expertise with a global market
- Helps to build your brand and establish yourself as an expert
- Can be an important part of your sales funnel
- Allows you to reach new audiences
- Can allow you to reduce your 1:1 work and experience more freedom
But ultimately, you need to know what an e-Course would mean for your business. This is your ‘purpose’ and it plays a big role in helping you to position and package your e-Course further down the track.
So grab out your journal or a piece of paper and write at the top: why do I want to create an e-Course? Then start writing!
How do you come up with a topic for your e-Course?
Now that you know why you’re creating an e-Course, let’s dive into the fun stuff and talk about your idea!
If you already have a thriving business then I think it’s safe to say that you have a good idea of what your community needs and wants from you. And if you’re already working with your ideal clients then you’re bound to know so much about them. This definitely comes in handy when creating an e-Course for your thriving business!
Here are some things to consider when brainstorming your e-Course topic:
- What areas do you already work on with your clients?
- Are there services that your clients really, really love?
- What help are your clients asking you for?
- What are your clients struggling with?

Once you’ve answered these questions, I want you to read back through them and brainstorm some potential e-Course topics.
When you have some ideas, ask yourself:
- Which e-Course idea do my clients need the most?
- Which idea aligns best with my e-Course purpose?
- Which e-Course idea would I most enjoy creating?
By now, it should be clear on what kind of e-Course you want to bring to life!
What should you include in your e-Course?
So we’ve worked on your purpose and topic, now it’s time to think about what you should include in your e-Course.
Like I said before, the way that you position and package your e-Course will rely heavily on why you are creating it.
For example, if your purpose is to offer a more affordable way of working with you then you will position your e-Course as an entry-level program… which will help you to decide what you include in the package and what you leave out. This would be different if your purpose was to establish yourself as an expert in your field. If that was the case, you would position your e-Course as a high-level program and package it up in a more premium way.
Want to know more about positioning and packaging? I talk about it here!
Once you have a clear idea on your positioning strategy then you can start to think about what you want to include in your e-Course. As a thriving business, you’re already at an advantage as you most likely have content, resources and tools that you provide to your clients.
So start by asking yourself: what content do I already have that I could package up into an e-Course?
This will be a great starting point and you can continue to add content and resources as you go along!
When to create an e-Course for your thriving business?
You have a purpose, a topic and even some ideas of how you will position and package it all up, now for the million dollar question: how will you find the time to create it?
If your business is thriving, you might not have a lot of spare time to start creating an e-Course. Don’t worry, I totally get it!
But if you go back to your e-Course purpose and tap into the reasons why you wanted to create an e-Course in the first place then I think you will realise that it’s all worth it in the end.
So let’s take a moment to consider what it will take to create an e-Course for your business…
Do you need to block out time in your calendar?
Do you need to take on less clients for a couple of months?
Can you work some extra hours while you’re creating it?
Will you create the course upfront or on-the-go? (I wrote a great blog post about this here!)
Then once you have a plan, it’s just a matter of doing it! You won’t regret it!
