Affiliate marketing can be a powerful addition to any business, but how can you have success with affiliate marketing? And how can you do it authentically in a way that doesn’t offend your existing tribe.
Alignment is important
Do you tribe need the product or service you are promoting as an affiliate? If you are sharing something that you genuinely believe in and it will be of value to your tribe then you shouldn’t be afraid to embrace affiliate marketing.
Here are some of my top tips for having success with affiliate marketing.
Schedule affiliate marketing like any other launch
If you are an affiliate for a product with a live launch then you’ll need to schedule it into your editorial calendar. Just popping a link on your website isn’t enough, think about how you can maximise the impact of your affiliate promotions and weave them into your calendar.
The most successful affiliates generally engage in different types of promotion including email, social media and website links. Sometimes you’ll have a clash of dates with your own e-Course launch which will mean you need to decide whether to skip an affiliate promotion or only send it to a segment of your audience.
Pre-scheduling your social media is a total game-changer for your business and it can be so helpful when promoting programs or products that you are an affiliate for.
Simply sign-up with something like Meet Edgar or Buffer or speciality scheduling apps for other social media such as Board Booster for Pinterest (affiliate link) and then set up some pre-scheduled promotions.
This is probably a 5-10 minute job and the your social media affiliate promotion is on autopilot!
Don’t be afraid to send the direct email
This strategy is the BEST way to gain great affiliate commissions but many people are loathe to do it.
Because they worry about unsubscribes from their list as a result.
Did you know that up to 0.5% unsubscribes per email you send is considered normal? That is for ANY email.
So I look at it this way, if I am sharing something that I believe in and that is of genuine use to my tribe then it is totally worth sending a direct email about it even if a few people unsubscribe.
Whenever I send direct emails for affiliate programs I belong to I always get affiliate commissions as a result.
One email I sent resulted in over $5k in commissions!
So how do I suggest you go about this?
Send an email that is from the heart. Talk about the product or program that you are promoting and the difference it has made in your life or talk about how you know how stuck you can get on an e-Course idea. Make it personal and your tribe will connect with you.
And make sure you include your affiliate link in the email!
Just remember that legally you need to have a disclaimer at the bottom of the email that states that you may earn an affiliate commission if they choose to buy.
Set up a resources page
OH baby this one’s a goodie.
You can receive income every single month just from having a resources page with affiliate links on your website?
It is non-intrusive, you don’t have to send any emails and it is totally passive once set-up – can I have a “hell yeah”?
A resources page is super easy to set-up and it can be a mixture of your products, links to your favourite blogs and other programs and products you recommend.
Just remember that you need to have a disclaimer that states that you may earn an affiliate commission.
