There are so many ways that you can build your list before going into a launch. And after seven years of launching, I feel like I’ve almost done them all. But today, I want to go back and revisit an old favourite – the video series!
For the past few months, I’ve been working on creating a new video series that leads into my popular five-day Launch Like A Pro Challenge. You see, last time I ran the challenge I heard from so many of my community members who said that they LOVED the challenge but sadly they didn’t know what to launch.
This made me sad… because I love launching and I think it’s a smart strategy to have in your business.
So I decided to create an offering that would support my community to get crystal clear on their next offering so that they could start the Launch Like A Pro Challenge with more confidence and clarity.
Hence, Launch Like A Pro Prep School was born!
Why did I decide on a video series?
Now you know why I decided to create the new offering but why did I decide to do a video series? Why didn’t I just create an e-book? Or run a webinar?
Well firstly, I already have established e-books and webinars that fit perfectly into my pre-launch list-building strategy. So when it came to my new idea, I wanted to use a strategy that provides maximum engagement. So really this video series is a hybrid live event – as I am also including a supportive Facebook Community.
Secondly, I am a big fan of video series and believe they are one of the best ways to market your online course and lead your prospective participants through an educational and engaging process that builds trust and credibility (while also creating a desire to work with you further).
And finally, I’ve had success with a video series before. My three part video training on the Strategies for Epic e-Course Success has been one of my most loved list-building strategies to date.
Where did I start when creating my new video series?
I started with just the idea – I need to help people define and refine what it is they will launch.
I’m someone who likes to name my offerings (paid or free) really early on – it helps me to tune into the energy of the offering. We played around with a lot of different names but then I realised, let’s just call it what it is… a primer or prep school for the Launch like a Pro Challenge. And so the Launch like a Pro Prep School was born!
I got the logo done soon after as this helps me to tune into the energy of what I am creating and also helps to build interest and excitement – while taking my community on the creation journey with me.
So I decided on the topic and then I decided to create a video series… next up was creating it!
The first step in the process was to get clear on exactly what I wanted to include in the content. For this, I went back to communications and conversations that I’d had with my community as they went through the Launch like a Pro Challenge. The aspects they struggled with were what they were going to launch, what the price was and the associated decisions that inform price (positioning and packaging). So I decided on four main areas that I wanted to teach about.
- Getting clear on your idea
- Getting clear on your positioning
- Getting clear on your packaging
- Getting clear on your pricing
These were all areas that I knew my community were struggling with. And these were all areas that I’d already written and taught before. So I knew that I had the expertise to deliver it!
Getting clear on the topics that I wanted to talk about also helped me decided how many videos to create. With four topics to talk about, I decided on creating four videos that would be delivered over four days.
Once I decided on the four main topics, it was time to get an outline together.
The outlines for each of the videos included:
- Intention or desired outcome – what did I want them to achieve at the end of each training?
- Content to be discussed
- Resources and worksheets included
When the outlines were complete and I was confident in moving ahead with the plan then I dived into creating the content.
What did the creation process for the video series look like?
When creating the video series, I started with the worksheets or resources that would be included with each topic. These were directly related to the intention or desired outcome that I decided on in the previous step.
I love my three part video training on the Strategies for Epic e-Course Success but I’ve changed a lot since creating the video series and I definitely wanted to bring a more ‘soulful’ approach to Launch Like A Pro Prep School.
So as well as the questions and activities in the worksheets, I also included a ‘soulful ritual’ for participants to complete before they dive into the strategy. After all, my flagship launching program Launch Mastery is all about strategy AND soul!
I’d already made the decision that I wanted the videos in the series to include face-to-camera introductions which would then go into educational slides with my voice over. So my next step in the process was to work on the slides that would accompany the voiceovers. These were related to the worksheets that I created but went into more depth about the topic and activities.
Once the worksheets and slides were finalised, I moved on to filming the face-to-camera videos for each of the topics (as well as some promotional videos for the opt-in, thank you page and a special offer which we’ll talk about soon). While I normally get some support when filming videos, I decided to do it myself with a borrowed light and a DIY studio space in my office. Over all, I’m super happy with the result!
Next up, I recorded myself speaking while going over the slides and edited these videos to match with the introductions in Camtasia. The videos were then uploaded to Vimeo so that I could embed in the membership site!
And the end product looks a little something like this:
Finally, I put all the content together into the membership site, I was lucky to have a great template from my professionally designed Challenge pages so we tweaked this for the Prep School.
We then created an email sequence and wrote four daily emails. These emails included an introduction to the topic of the day, links to access the video and download the worksheet as well as a reminder to join the pop-up Facebook Community (learn more about this here).
So when it comes to creating your own video series, here are the exact steps to take:
- Draft an outline for each video including intention, content and resources
- Create and finalise the worksheets or resources
- Decide on the type of videos you want to create
- Film, edit and upload videos
- Add content to membership site (or other platform)
- Create email sequence and write email content
How do I plan on marketing the video series?
Now that the video series has been created, it’s time to market and promote it!
The first step in this process is to create an opt-in page. The copy for the opt-in page was created as I finalised the worksheets and videos to make sure it was aligned and specific. I also filmed the opt-in page video on the same day as the introductions for the series were filmed.
After my community opts in to the series, I always like to direct them to a thank you page with a special video and copy that encourages them to share with their friends and engage in some other content that I’ve created.
Once the opt-in and thank you page have been created, it’s time to get promoting!
Here are some ways that we are doing it:
- Promotional emails to my list
- Blog posts to promote the video series
- Social media posts over all platforms
- Facebook Ads
And if you want even more information about social media posts…
Here are the graphics that we’re getting created:
- Square Instagram graphics
- Facebook page header
- Facebook ad graphics
- Email headers
- Sidebar graphic for website
- Pinterest graphics
Because it’s always good to cover all bases!
So overall, I’m super excited to be creating another video series and I hope this blog post has helped you to get clear on all the steps involved.
